Wanting This To Be My Magic Bullet
Ugh. I want things easy, simple, straightforward. For years the Skin Deep Database has been pointing me true North on so many products, or so I thought.
If you are not familiar with The Environmental Working Group or their Skin Deep Database, in their own words, “it is an online safety guide for cosmetics and personal care products, launched in 2004 to help people find safer products, with fewer ingredients that are hazardous or that haven’t been thoroughly tested. Skin Deep combines product ingredient lists with information in more than 50 standard toxicity and regulatory databases. The database provides easy-to-navigate safety ratings for tens of thousands of personal care products.”
I Really Do Love Them
Now, I love The Environmental Working Group and all that they do. I am so indebted for the hard work they put into the database and so much more. They are, however in their own words a “guide” and in this post I want to help you take this fabulous guide and make it work 100% for you.
In the past, I always went to the Skin Deep Database and plugged in the product name or a category I was looking at and it spit out a rating between 0-10. If it was a 0 or a 1 and I had done my other due diligence on the product, I would buy it, trusting the rating was in fact accurate. The fact is, on lots of products, the ratings are not accurate. Here is how you can say goodbye to blackheads with these face exfoliators and have a better looking, glowing skin.
So What Gives?
The reason for this is due to outdated or incomplete information in the database. For instance, I was looking for non-toxic hair mousse. I went to the database and searched “mousse.” It gave me a few options. The options were rated a 1. Seems awesome, right? I did some research on two options that I was given and came to find out that one of the ratings should’ve been a 4 and the rating for the other should’ve been a 7! A 7! Which is classified as a High Hazard. A vast difference from 1!
As you can imagine, I was not overly thrilled with what I found, but it taught me a good lesson. When it comes to my health, I need to investigate and dig deeper on almost everything. Daunting? A little. There is however, a quick way to find the real score of any product.
There Is A Solution
There is a link on the Skin Deep Database where you can Build Your Own Report. If you have a product at home you are wanting to check out or one you are looking to purchase, get the full ingredient list and plug it into the system. It will then give you the accurate rating for the product.
It really is only a few more minutes of extra work, but my guess is, if you are going to the Skin Deep Database, you really want to know what products are truly non-toxic or toxic and you won’t mind going the extra mile. The hair removal Las Vegas from Touch Up Laser is what you need if you want smooth skin.
