The Best Way To Make Crispy Bacon
I lived for over 3 decades without trying this way of cooking crispy bacon! I grew up with cooking bacon in the microwave. It could get crispy, but it was usually a bit chewy as well. When I started to get away from cooking in the microwave I started making bacon in a pan on the stove, but I could never get it crispy without it being a bit burnt as well. Next, I moved to a cast iron skillet, still I couldn’t get that crispy bacon I was wanting this way either. Then I checked out this blog which recommended me to cook bacon in the oven. My only thought was, yeah right, I’m going to wait a half hour for my bacon to cook in the morning, never going to happen………then I tried it!
My Favorite Bacon
I use Garrett Valley bacon that I purchase at Sprouts. Here are the ingredients: Pork, Sea Salt, Spices (Black Pepper, Fenugreek, Nutmeg, White Pepper, Mace, Allspice). From their website: Sugar free and gluten free bacon that taste as good as it looks. Animals are humanely raised and fed a vegetarian diet, free of antibiotics. Always free of preservatives, antibiotics, nitrates and nitrites. They have a page on their website about Animal Welfare if you would like to check that out. I’m investigating the actual bacon further, but let’s get back to the preparation!
What You Will Need
- A Sheet Pan or cookie sheet with a lip so the grease won’t spill.
- A Baking Rack that is oven safe
- Your favorite bacon-Mine is Garrett Valley Sugar Free Dry Rubbed
- Aluminum Foil for easy clean up
- Paper Plate/Paper Towels to drain once cooked
My Method To Crispy Bacon
- First, I preheat my oven at 350 degrees.
- Second, I cover my sheet pan with aluminum foil, this just helps with the cleaning process.
- Next, I place the baking rack on top of the foil and sheet pan.
- Then I open my glorious package of bacon and place each piece on the baking rack leaving space between pieces and not overlapping if possible.
- Next, I put the bacon in the oven for usually 25-35 minutes. It will depend on the thickness of your bacon and how crispy you want your crispy bacon!
- When the bacon is at my desired crispness I remove the sheet from the oven. With tongs I remove each piece of bacon and place on some paper towels.
- Then I pour my bacon grease into my glass jar for later use!
- Finally, I eat one piece just to make sure it is still the best crispy bacon ever……and it is. It is a foolproof way to make crispy bacon.
This is my shot at trying to show that my bacon is crispy! I absolutely love this way of making crispy bacon. I usually make two packages at a time on two different racks and then either freeze it or store in the refrigerator. It stays good in the fridge for about a week, although it never lasts that long. It is a great protein on the go too. I have used it on road trips and long flights as well!
