Cumin, Coriander & Fennel Tea (CCF Tea)
After my Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis I decided to find a more holistic neurologist. I found a wonderful Ayurvedic neurologist, Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary. She suggested I drink this tea everyday. I wasn’t a tea drinker, I needed to do a little investigating to convince me of its benefits.
First, I needed some motivation. What made this tea good for me? Does it have any negatives effects that I could experience from drinking this tea? Here is the evidence I found about the different seeds and their benefits.
Evidence and Benefits
Cumin, I love cumin. I mainly think of Mexican food, but it’s used in many different cultures. In it’s seed form they are a long oval-shaped seeds. They help reduce indigestion, gas and cramps. It is great for eliminating toxins from mind and body. Good for pacifying all dosha types. Not sure what Dosha’s are? Here is my post on the Ayurvedic approach to health.
Coriander, this is from a cilantro leaf, little ball seeds. This seed helps to balance all three dosha’s as well. Helps to cool high body temperature (great for people with MS), it reduces acid in your stomach, helps relieve congestion and joint pain and is also known for reducing skin irritations or rashes.
Fennel, closely related to Anise and Dill. This is a great seed to aid in digestion and is used in many cultures either in seed form or in the raw vegetable after a meal to do just that. It relieves cramping and gas, help with healthy menstrual flow and has a calming effect on your mind as well as bringing clarity.
The Powerful Punch of Seeds, Who Knew?
I was told that some people can experience some cramping or discomfort in their abdominal area. I have never experienced any discomfort or cramping from drinking this tea, the exact opposite is true. I feel as though it balances me and helps me remove toxins from my system.
CCF tea is not only good for digestion, but is good for weight loss, soothing inflammation, detoxification, staying hydrated and mental clarity. I highly recommend trying this hot/warm and replacing your morning coffee with this. I personally wouldn’t have this cold. It doesn’t feel as good in my body.
Since this tea is made from seeds it is not a strict AIP tea. If you are avoiding seeds now please wait until you have added them back into your diet before trying this tea.
I think this is a delicious digestive tea and helps. It has more of broth flavor than a tea flavor. Try it for a week and see for yourself.
Let me know what you think of this digestive tea below. If you have any other digestive or detox teas that you absolutely love please share!
Here is the recipe.
This tea aids in digestion, helps detoxify and can help lose weight. Kara- SistersUndercover.com
Ingredients
- 4-5 Cups (about a Liter) of boiling water
- 1/2 tsp Organic Cumin Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Organic Coriander Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Organic Fennel Seeds
Instructions
- Boil the 4-5 cups of boiling water in the morning
- Add the seeds to the boiling water
- Let steep for at least 10 minutes ( I usually let it go 15-20 minutes)
- Strain out the seeds and pour liquid into a container that keeps things hot/warm
- Sip the tea throughout the day. Start over with a new batch every morning.
- If the tea is too strong or you experience some initial discomfort, reduce the amount of seeds to 1/4 tsp each seed for two weeks and then increase to 1/2 tsp.
UPDATE: If you don’t want to make this every morning you can try this pre-made tea on Amazon. I haven’t tried it, but we found it and thought we would share it. Happy CCF drinking!

Any type of tea flavor that you can compare this to? Just wondering what the taste is like. 🙂
I can’t really compare it to another tea flavor since I am a newbie to tea. It has a very mild flavor, the fennel flavor is the most dominant to me, but still very mild. Try it and let me know what you think!
I loved venkel thee ( fennel) when I was breast feeding. It’s great for babies that get cramps. I haven’t drank it since but this recipe sounds great so I’m going to give it a go.
Let me know what you think Noleen. It is my everyday tea now. I sometimes make two liters of this a day!
