Toilet Schmoilet
Do we really need to care what we use to clean our toilet bowl? I mean, c’mon! It’s the toilet! I’m not going to be eating off of the surface or taking a bath in the water…okay….gross. I just crossed a line. Armed with these thoughts, I march into my grocery store, pick up your standard toilet bowl cleaner and then see massive warnings about how toxic and dangerous this “fabulous” product is. The big warnings are normally attributed to the hydrochloric acid and chlorine bleach.
Hydrochloric acid is just gnarly (yes, I was raised in southern California) for your system to breathe in. It’s incredibly toxic for children and pets. It’s just one of those chemicals you don’t want lying around willy nilly in your house. And bleach. Well, it’s a doozy. It can burn and destroy living tissue and make asthma sufferers have a super hard time.
Both of those ingredients are great to clean, but the dangers and toxin levels are just unnecessary. Cleaning things naturally can actually mean cleaning well…GASP! We have a toilet bowl recipe that works very well and doesn’t have any crazy warning labels attached. Here is what it feels like to have comfortable bidet seats in your toilet, go get one for yourself.
Ingredients
- Liquid Castile Soap
- Water
- Baking Soda
- Essential Oils
Instructions
- In a liquid measuring cup add:
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup liquid castile soap
- Mix in 2 T. of baking soda
- Add 1 t. of an essential oil of choice
- Mix it all together
- I then funnel it into a squeeze bottle with a spout cap
- I also put a label on it so that when this runs out, I don't have to hunt down the recipe. BOOM!
One More Ace Up My Sleeve For Those Tough Stains.
Kool-Aid! Yep! Sugar free (this is the key people!) lemon flavored Kool-Aid. I use lemon because of the citric acid benefit. You use this on those crazy hard stains that just can’t come off no matter what you do. Have the packet ripped open and ready to roll. Flush the toilet. As the water goes down, sprinkle the contents of the packet along the sides of the toilet. Let this sit for several hours or if you can, overnight. Then scrub a dub dub and voila! This is really quite magical and uber cost effective.
