My Favorite Non-Toxic Eye Shadows and Blushes
Beauty products just lure me in. I like trying new things, feeling all spiffy and purdy and playing with different looks. When I was literally cleaning house of all the toxic garbage in my life, my makeup was basically one of the last things I switched over. It was due to a little bit of sticker shock. It was a little bit of not wanting to give certain things up. It was a lot a bit of a rebellion.
But I Want My Chemical Friends Around
I liked all of the toxic, chemical ridden goodies I stored up and played with. I didn’t want to part with them and have to find new, healthy products I loved. I didn’t want to. I wasn’t going to. No one could make me!
Then, I tried looking at the Skin Deep Database just hoping the products I had on hand would magically be good and toxic free. Well, the good ole beauty industry burst my bubble. They are big offenders of nasty ingredients in beautiful looking products. When I saw how horribly rated my current makeup was, it was enough motivation for me to start looking at what was out there for real.
Jane Iredale was one of the brands that kept popping up on my Skin Deep Database search. They are rated 1 on the Skin Deep Database out of 0-10, 0 being the most toxic free. I then headed over to Amazon and almost choked on my water at the price. Why does healthy always mean lots of money? Why do I feel like my pocket book is penalized for choosing my health?
Do I Really Have To Make The Switch?
With these questions swirling, I went back to the Skin Deep Database looking at all of my existing products again with a fine tooth comb…maybe it wasn’t as bad as I thought? I looked up every single ingredient. ALL of my beauty products contained hazardous chemicals that are known to cause developmental and birth defects, allergies, disrupt the endocrine system and cancer. Then it hit me. In the course of my life I’ll be exposed to toxins that are beyond my control and I choose to not worry about that and let it go. However, something I can control and put on my face everyday for long periods of time is not something I want to be deemed as “hazardous.”
I journeyed back to Amazon and bit the bullet on the eye shadow and blush. Held my breath and hoped for the best.
It is years later and I am a total fan girl of Jane Iredale. Although I have tried lots of Jane Iredale products, the eye shadows and blushes are my favorite. First times a charm!
The blush I currently wear most days is called Cotton Candy. There are about 9 colors of blush to choose from and they are all good!
This stuff lasts FOREVER! Pictured above is my current eye shadow that I’ve had for over a year. I’ve hardly put a dent in it!
I went all out baller status and purchased the Perfectly Nude Eye Shadow Kit and I could not be happier. It encompasses every color I love on my eyes for a normal day to day look. It has lasted me forever, y’all! The eye shadows are my absolute favorite. They are healthy, a little goes a long way and it has great staying power.
Here are a couple of pictures of me wearing the eye shadows and blush (I’m on the left). These photos do not have filters and are not retouched in any way, so it is an accurate portrayal! To see a more close up version you can visit our Meet The Sisters page and our Homepage.
I am one satisfied Sister and officially rate Jane Iredale’s Eye Shadows and Blushes as:

This stuff looks great! Im not going to spend a lot of money on my makeup- any suggestions for budget friendly options? Thanks!
Hi Jenny! This stuff is great and lasts a really long time. However, I know of a company that aligns with our beliefs in bringing great, natural cosmetics to the forefront. We haven’t tried their stuff personally but their ingredients could not be any cleaner so we feel very comfortable recommending them. They are also more budget friendly. They are called Araza Beauty. If you want to check them out, they offer sample kits for a great price. http://www.arazabeauty.com/sistersundercover
Did you ladies see that Thrive now has a natural makeup they are promoting? Have either of you tried it out or done any investigating on it?
Hey there! Is the brand they are promoting called Mineral Fusion? That is the only one I see on their site right now. I do have experience with them. I am actually doing a big ole makeup series for Sept/Oct. showing my favorites on all things makeup. I can’t wait to share it! -Kacy
